Prepare for tick bites – Get vaccinated against TBE

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a viral disease transmitted through tick bites. Ticks carrying the virus are most common in coastal areas, where around 1-2% of ticks carry the virus. However, ticks have spread inland in recent years and can now be encountered throughout most of Finland.

In severe cases, the disease can cause life-threatening brain inflammation and long-term or permanent neurological symptoms. TBE is a serious illness, but fortunately, there is a vaccine available. The vaccine is recommended for both children and adults who spend time in risk areas.

The TBE vaccine provides highly effective protection against tick-borne encephalitis. It is recommended for anyone spending time in high-risk areas and can be administered from the age of one. The basic vaccination series includes three doses, followed by booster shots every few years. Full vaccination protection prevents TBE in up to 99% of cases. In addition to preventing acute illness, the TBE vaccine helps reduce long-term neurological complications, such as memory and concentration problems.

You can get vaccinated with us as a self-paying client or through occupational health services. Bring the whole family to ensure everyone’s booster schedule is aligned.
